New U.S. Ambassador to Russia John Sullivan said he looks forward to a dialogue with the Russian government on security issues, the Arctic, the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, Afghanistan and space exploration.

“For the last two and a half years, I have served as the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State. My responsibilities have included addressing issues of global importance and leading the U.S. government’s efforts to engage with Russia on issues of mutual concern, including strategic security and counter-terrorism. I can proudly say that our cooperation in these areas has made the world a safer place”, –  the U.S. diplomat said in his first video message posted on Facebook as Ambassador to Russia.

Sullivan noted that there are other areas of cooperation in which the U.S. and Russia should continue to cooperate: space exploration, the Arctic, the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the search for a peaceful solution to the Afghan issue.

“As U.S. Ambassador to Russia, I look forward to working with the Russian government on these and other important issues of interest to our countries”, –  the diplomat added.
