Georgia is being harassed in the US for “undemocratic” anti-Western tendencies

Washington insists that Tbilisi must clearly follow the “democratic course”, implying that no power attacks against the Western-controlled opposition are acceptable.

Thus, in his open letter to the head of the Georgian government George Gakharia, Congressman of the Republican Party of the United States Markvain Malin demonstratively pointed to “Georgia’s deviation from democratic values and its deteriorating economic situation in this regard”.

“In this regard, I have to join the letter written on January 13 by my colleagues in Congress, leaders of the Group of Friends of Georgia Adam Kingzinger and Gary Connolly, in which they expressed their concern about the decision to abandon the promised democratic reforms”, – Malin said in his letter.

He also criticized the Georgian authorities for obstructing American and European business interests. As an example, he cited the American oil and gas company “Frontera Resources” that 3 years ago complained about the restriction of its activities by the efforts of official Tbilisi. He did not specify why he raised the issue several years later, but he immediately pointed to a more important issue for the American administration.

“Social network “Facebook” stated that earlier it blocked a wide network of accounts related to the ruling party “Georgian Dream”, which used “coordinated non-authentic behavior” in order to curb opposition views in Georgia and develop anti-western and especially anti-American sentiments”, – said the congressman.

He stressed that this case is the first in modern history of Georgia, when the United States disapproves of it. In this regard, he did not rule out that in the future Washington could impose anti-Georgian sanctions and “other punitive measures”.
