The German Chancellor will hold talks with President Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul.
German Chancellor Angela Merkel will pay a working visit to Turkey on January 24, where she will hold talks with President Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul. This was announced by the official representative of the German Cabinet of Ministers, Steffen Seibert, at a briefing in Berlin on Friday.
“Upon completion of participation [in the forum] in Davos [January 23], the Chancellor will go to Istanbul. On Friday, negotiations with President Erdogan will take place there”, – he said. As a result, a press conference is planned for both leaders.
Merkel will also meet with business representatives at the invitation of the German-Turkish Chamber of Commerce and will participate with Erdogan in the opening of the German-Turkish University campus.
As previously reported, the President of Turkey intends to travel to Berlin next Sunday for an international conference on the settlement in Libya, where chaos prevailed after the assassination of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, and a de facto dual power establishment later. The meeting is expected to be attended by representatives, including at the level of heads of state, Russia, Algeria, the UK, Egypt, UAE, China, USA and France.
Erdogan said on Thursday that Ankara is beginning to send troops to Libya to support the Government of national consent of Faiz Sarrage.
