Britain will not deport EU citizens after June 2021

The European Parliament MP noted that the EU citizens will have an opportunity to apply for documents.

The UK will not automatically expel EU citizens from the country after the 30 June 2021 deadline for applying for new documents. This was announced on Friday by Guy Werhofstad, the European Parliament’s coordinator for UK exit from the European Union, on BBC Radio 4.

“There will be no automatic deportation,” said Werhofstad, noting that EU citizens will have the opportunity to apply for documents, “indicating the grounds for which it was impossible to do so under the standard procedure.

Last year the UK Home Office informed that several million EU citizens permanently residing in the UK would have to obtain new immigration status after Brexit. Processing the necessary documents for adults costs 65 pounds ($83.8), for children under 16 years old – 32.5 pounds ($41.9). The deadline for applying for new documents is June 30, 2021.
