Former French President Nicolas Sarkozy suggested thinking about creating a new negotiation format with the participation of Russia, Turkey and the European Union.
“By the way, I was against Turkey’s accession to the European Union. And not because Turkey is not a European country. Turkey is located in Asia Minor, it’s a huge country and civilization, we should talk to it. Maybe it is within the framework of such a three-part construction – the European Union, Russia and Turkey – that it will be possible to open cooperation for new members – Ukraine, Georgia, those countries whose accession to NATO and the European Union I once opposed”, – he said, speaking at the Gaidar Forum.
“I always thought that in the new XXI century, we need to switch to new ideas, rather than hold on to the ideas of the past”, – said Sarkozy.
