Russia is a factor of stability, and the West should build constructive cooperation relations with it, including the resolution of acute international crises, said former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.
“For many years Russia has been a factor of stability. The West must be aware and understand that only in constructive relations with Russia, which is an essential part of our culture and our European civilization, can crises like those in the Middle East be resolved”, – said the prominent politician in an interview published by La Verità on Wednesday.
In this regard, Berlusconi has seriously criticized the EU’s lack of a common foreign policy, which is manifested in particular when trying to resolve acute international crises.
“Only Europe, capable of a common foreign policy and having common military means, could really play its role. And only other relations with Russia can allow stabilizing these regions”, – he stressed.
According to the Italian former prime minister, the West’s main rival in today’s world is China, which “openly follows the imperialist plan for economic purposes, but with political means”.
