The ceasefire regime in Idlib, as well as in Libya, has been largely respected. This was stated on Tuesday by Turkish National Defense Minister Hulusi Akar.
“The ceasefire regime is largely respected, both in the Idlib de-escalation zone and in Libya. Turkey fully supports the ceasefire regime in both countries”, – the Anatolian Agency quoted him as saying. Akar also stressed that Ankara is in favor of “early peace, normalization of the situation and an end to the bloodshed both in Syria and Libya.
Meanwhile, the Al Arabiya TV channel previously reported that armed clashes resumed on Tuesday night in southern Tripoli.
On January 10, the Ministry of National Defense of Turkey reported that Ankara and Moscow have agreed on a ceasefire in the de-escalation zone in Idlib in northern Syria since January 12. Meanwhile, on 9 January, the head of the Centre for Reconciliation of Hostile Parties in the Syrian Arab Republic, Major General Yuri Borenkov, reported on the ceasefire in the de-escalation zone in Idlib from 14:00 on Thursday.
Idlib is the only region in Syria that remains in the hands of illegal armed groups. The northern de-escalation zone was established there in 2017, where militants who refused to lay down their arms in the Damascus suburb of Eastern Guta and southern regions of the Arab Republic moved. There are 12 observation posts of the Turkish army in the province.
Discussing the situation in Libya, Russian and Turkish Presidents Vladimir Putin and Tayyip Erdogan after the meeting in Istanbul on January 8 called on all parties to the conflict to stop fighting from midnight on January 12. First the Libyan National Army on Saturday night, and later on Sunday, the Government of National Concord expressed its support for the initiative and the ceasefire. Meanwhile, almost immediately after the ceasefire came into effect, the warring camps began accusing each other of violating it.
