Iran’s Ambassador noted the development of relations with Russia in defense and security spheres

However, the main topic of the meeting at the Council of Federation was economic cooperation.

The development of economic cooperation and ties between Russia and Iran through the parliaments were the main topics of the meeting with the Vice Speaker of the Federation Council Ilyas Umahanov. This was announced by Ambassador of Iran to Russia Kazem Jalali following the discussions held on Tuesday.

“Today we had a very good meeting,” the diplomat said. – We have very successfully discussed the interregional cooperation between our countries and summed up the results made in this area”.

“We talked about ways to develop economic cooperation, tourism, exchange visits on the parliamentary line, as well as the use of international parliamentary platforms so that at this level our relations could also develop,” the ambassador added.

According to the diplomat, the relations between Moscow and Tehran in the security and defense spheres have developed well in recent years.

“The relations between our two countries in different directions, at different levels have developed very well. I mean the spheres of politics, culture, defense and security. We are also witnessing the development of our trade and economic relations,” the Iranian Ambassador said.

At the same time, the diplomat pointed out that the level of economic relations is still unsatisfactory. “The volume of trade turnover does not correspond to our relations in other areas, particularly in the field of politics,” he added.
