Iran intends to bring U.S. authorities and military forces to justice at the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague for the murder of Iranian General Kassem Suleimani, said an official representative of the country’s judiciary, Gholamhaosein Esmaili, at a press conference.
Earlier, the head of the Iranian judiciary, Ibrahim Raisi, stated that it is necessary to bring US President Donald Trump to justice for the murder of Soleimani.
“We intend to bring to justice in the International Criminal Court the American Army, the government and (American President Donald) Trump on (the case) the murder of Soleimani”, – said Esmaily.
He stressed that Iran has three instances for U.S. criminal prosecution – through the Supreme Court of Iran, Iraqi courts and the ICC.
The situation in the Middle East has sharply escalated in recent weeks. After the protest action at the US embassy in Iraq, for which Washington laid the blame on Tehran, the American military killed Iranian General Kassem Suleimani while he was in Iraq. Iran responded with strikes on bases in Iraq, where there were U.S. employees, but no one was injured in the shootings. After Suleimani’s assassination, the Iraqi parliament called for the withdrawal of foreign troops from the country.
