Austria opposes sanctions on Nord Stream 2

Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg criticized the US sanctions against Nord Stream 2.

“We reject the extraterritorial effect of the sanctions. This is unacceptable”, – he said in an interview with Die Presse.

The Minister noted that the pipeline contributes to the diversification of energy supply in Europe and does not infringe on the interests of Ukraine.

Washington does not hide that its criticism of the project is based on economic considerations, Challenberg recalled. Answering a question about the plans of the United States to supply its LNG to the EU, the Foreign Minister noted that “Europe has other interests”.

At the same time, he emphasized that the United States and EU countries have the same values.

“But we cannot continue to use the methods of 30 years ago. The world has become multipolar”, – the Minister concluded.
