Iran promises revenge for US “act of war”

Iran’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Majid Taht-Ravanchi, said that the US operation to eliminate Iranian General Kassem Suleimani is tantamount to unleashing a war. The diplomat said this in an interview with CNN on January 3.

Takht-Ravanchi recalled that Washington launched an economic war against Tehran back in May 2018.

“Last night they opened a new chapter in this war, killing one of the main and most beloved generals in the people,” he said.

According to the diplomat, Iran will not leave unanswered US actions.

“Of course, Iran will not close its eyes to this. There will be revenge, Iran will respond as it sees fit. Iran will determine the time and place of such an answer,” Takht-Ravanchi emphasized.

Commenting on Washington’s statements that Suleimani posed a threat to the Americans, the Permanent Representative noted that “there is no evidence for this.

He also does not believe the words of President Donald Trump that the United States liquidated the general in order to stop the war with Tehran, and not to start it.

“I do not believe that the United States has taken this action to stop the war, because the investigation of the assassination of General Suleymani lasted a decent amount of time,” the Permanent Representative of Iran explained.

Earlier, US Presidential Assistant for National Security Robert O’Brien said that, according to the American side, Suleimani arrived in Baghdad from Damascus, where he allegedly prepared attacks on American diplomats and military personnel.

In response to a request for more details of these plans, O’Brien called the information “extremely sensitive” and refused to disclose the details.

Recall, on January 3, the United States conducted an operation in Iraq, during which the Iranian general Suleymani was killed.
