Demonstrators who stormed the US embassy in Baghdad left the diplomatic mission after being called up by the Shiite militia command, Iraqi Alsumaria reported.
Earlier, the command of Al-Hashd al-Shaabi called on its supporters to leave the area of the US embassy out of respect for the calls of the Iraqi government.
“Demonstrators gradually left the area of the US embassy”, – the channel said.
According to the channel, Iraqi Interior Minister Yassin Al-Yassiri visited the rally at the embassy to make sure that the demonstrators were leaving.
On Tuesday, protesters attempted to storm the main gate of the US Embassy in Baghdad in the Iraqi capital’s green zone, where diplomatic missions and government agencies are located. Protests at the US embassy began immediately after the funeral of members of the Shiite group Kataib Hezbollah who died in the attacks of American drones. On Wednesday, the rally continued, and US troops once again used tear gas against the demonstrators.
Iraqi President Barham Saleh on Tuesday condemned the attack by protesters at the US Embassy in Baghdad and called such actions “an attack on the sovereignty” of Iraq itself.
The United States attacked five targets of the Kataib Hezbollah movement in Iraq and Syria “in response to the repeated attacks of Kataib Hezbollah against Iraqi bases.” The Pentagon explained that these actions were taken in response to the attacks of the movement on the Iraqi base near Kirkuk, where a US citizen died and four American soldiers were wounded.
