Bolivia expels heads of embassies of Spain and Mexico

“The constitutional government that I head decided to declare Maria Teresa Mercado, Mexican Chargé d’Affaires of Spain, Cristina Borregero and Spanish Consul in Bolivia, persona non grata persona, they must leave the country within 72 hours,” said Bolivian President Janine Agnes.

Diplomats are being expelled amid the conflict over the diplomatic mission of Mexico in La Paz.

The situation surrounding the Mexican Embassy in La Paz, where nine officials from the government of former President Evo Morales are currently located, remains tense, despite assurances from the Bolivian authorities that respect for the integrity of Mexico’s diplomats and property.
