The First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy Igor Ananskikh commented on a statement by Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadim Priestayko, who warned Germany of energy dependence on Russia due to the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline.
“Unfortunately, our Ukrainian friends are always talking about the same thing. It must be understood that for many decades there have never been disruptions in gas supplies from Russia to Europe. Therefore, it’s silly to talk about some kind of energy dependence. This is irrelevant, this has been said dozens of times, and this has never been confirmed”, – the Parliamentarian said.
Ananskikh emphasized that in a situation with current energy supplies, Russian gas is the most advantageous solution for European countries.
“It (Russian gas – ed.) is the cheapest and most profitable for European consumers … But Ukrainian comrades need to do real things to improve the lives of Ukrainians, and not think about the lives of Europeans”, – the deputy added.
Pristayko said earlier that Germany is building the Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline to make itself independent of gas supplies through Ukraine, which “guarantees gas supplies through its pipelines”.
