With the current American intervention against the construction of the pipeline, which should ensure European gas supplies from Russia, a point has been reached where European politicians should free themselves from the influence of US interests. Austrian strategic analyst Patrick Poppel has criticized US influence on European politics for many years.
“It started with sanctions, and now we are already in the struggle for gas. We should not allow Americans to constantly give us advice and orders!” – Poppel said.
In the future, European states should again pursue their foreign policy more independently.
“We must immediately end the sanctions against Russia. Better today than tomorrow”, – said Poppel.
The Austrian recommends orienting all European foreign policy towards a new goal.
“Politicians should serve the interests of the economies and security of their countries, not the interests of the US Department of State”, – says Poppel.
