The US has admitted that it participated in the reform of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine

American diplomat William Taylor noted as positive the re-certification process for prosecutors.

The US embassy in Ukraine expressed satisfaction with the reform of the Prosecutor General’s Office of Ukraine (PGO) and reported on its involvement in this process. This statement was made on Thursday by Charge d’Affaires a.i. William Taylor at a news conference.

“The US embassy and the team of the US embassy took part in this process,” Taylor said, referring to the PGO reform process. He stressed that he considered it a great honour to “witness this extremely important reform”. He called it “the most comprehensive reform”, – that he has seen in Ukraine.

The U.S. diplomat noted as positive the process of re-certification of prosecutors, calling it “the first step aimed at increasing confidence in the body and the right in Ukraine”.

At the same time, he stressed the need to continue working in this direction.

“Next year is a difficult part of work”, – Taylor said, specifying that the process of certification of prosecutors should be continued throughout Ukraine.

At a joint press conference with Taylor, the Prosecutor General of Ukraine Ruslan Ryaboshapka announced the opening of the Office of the Prosecutor General on January 2, which is part of the PGO reform. He added that it will employ 610 prosecutors, who have already successfully passed the re-certification, passed the tests for knowledge of the law and general abilities, as well as the integrity test. Twelve departments, eight directorates and two special prosecutors will be established in the office.
