Lavrov and EU diplomacy head discusses situation in Libya and Ukraine

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov discussed the situation in Libya and Ukraine with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrel by phone, the Russian diplomatic office said.
The conversation was initiated by the EU side.


“The focus was on the settlement of the situation in Libya and Ukraine”, –  the Russian ministry said.

At the first summit of the Norman Quartet leaders in three years, held in Paris on 9 December, the parties adopted a joint communiqué and agreed to meet in Berlin in four months to continue work to resolve the situation in Donbass. The communiqué stressed that the Minsk agreements remain the basis for work in the “Norman format” and provide for the separation of forces by the end of March 2020 in three new locations in Donbass. The leaders also called for a ceasefire in Donbass by the end of the year. In addition, they called on the contact group to ensure the exchange of prisoners in Donbass “all for all” before the end of the year and to grant the Red Cross “full and unconditional access to all detainees”.
