Tokyo considers it its duty to resolve the territorial issue, said the Prime Minister of Japan.
Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe intends to settle the issue of the peace treaty with Russia and aims to intensify ties with China, including the implementation of the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Tokyo. He made the relevant statement at a press conference on Tuesday in Chengdu, where he held talks with South Korean President Mun Jae-yin and Chinese Premier Li Keqiang.
“I am aimed at solving the issue of the peace treaty with Russia”, – the national news agencies quote the Prime Minister. – We’ll conclude it by solving the territorial issue, which we consider our duty.
Shinzo Abe stressed that he has made significant progress in relations with China. He noted the special importance of the upcoming visit of the Chinese President to Japan in spring.
“It will be a chance to show the world that Japan and China are ready to fulfill their responsibility to maintain peace and stability in the world”, – he said.
Answering a question about the situation in Hong Kong and the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of China, the Japanese prime minister urged Beijing to “resolve issues through dialogue”.
