Trump invites Johnson to visit the White House

The US President Donald Trump invited British Prime Minister Boris Johnson to visit the White House earlier this year, the Sunday Times reports citing sources.

According to the publication, Johnson received an invitation to pay an official visit to the United States, accompanied by his girlfriend Kerry Symonds, to discuss trade relations between the two countries after Britain left the EU.

Sources on Downing Street report that the parties have not yet discussed the exact timing of the visit. At the same time, a source close to the White House said that “options were discussed in mid-January”.

“It is clear that both sides want this to happen somewhere in the beginning of 2020”, – the newspaper quoted him as saying.

The newspaper adds that the UK does not want Johnson to be embroiled in a scandal over the impeachment of Trump, and that the Prime Minister should not be expected to visit the United States earlier than February.
