Morales called a meeting of the party to discuss the election of a presidential candidate for Bolivia

The meeting will be held on December 29.

The Party “Movement for Socialism” will meet on December 29 in Buenos Aires to discuss the process of selecting a new candidate for the presidency of Bolivia. This was announced on Twitter on Saturday by former head of state Evo Morales, who received asylum in Argentina.

“We are summoning the leaders of the “Movement for Socialism” from nine departments of the country to a meeting on 29 December in Buenos Aires to discuss and organize a convention at which we will select candidates for the next elections”, –  wrote Morales, who was appointed Chief of Staff of the candidate of a political force in the upcoming elections of the Head of State.

Bolivia held its presidential election on 20 October. According to the Supreme Electoral Court, Morales, then the incumbent head of state, received the majority of votes. His main rival, Carlos Mesa, stated that he would not recognize his opponent’s victory in the first round.

After three weeks of protests, Morales left his post, describing the situation as a coup d’état. His example was followed by the Vice-President, Alvaro Garcia Linera, and the Speakers of both houses of Parliament, who, according to the Constitution, were next in line to accept the authority of the Head of State. The Second Vice-President of the House of Senators, Janine Agnès, representing the opposition, announced that she was taking over the presidency until a new election was held and appointed her Cabinet. On December 12, Morales, who was granted asylum in Mexico after his resignation, arrived in the capital of Argentina, where he was granted refugee status.
