Lavrov noted Trump’s desire to continue dialogue with Russia

U.S. President Donald Trump sent a signal to the U.S. establishment that a dialogue with Russia should continue, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

“The signal he sent to his establishment, the White House and State Department staff, is very clear: we must continue to talk with Russia. We believe that this is the only right way”, –  he said on the talk show “Big Game” on Channel One.

Lavrov said that his meeting with the American leader in Washington “was not empty, was not purely protocol. They discussed bilateral relations, strategic stability, arms control, regional conflicts: in the Middle East, Ukraine, the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

“On all these questions there was a very direct conversation, no attempt to “cut” the sharp corners. We sometimes have serious differences on the same Iranian nuclear programme, on some other issues. But we are committed to dialogue, and Trump confirmed it”, –  the minister added.

Lavrov paid a visit to the U.S. on December 10, during which he held talks with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and met with President Donald Trump.
