Lithuania will legitimize repressions against objectionable – security officials are undemocraticly expanding their powers

The relevant amendments to the current legislation were submitted to the Parliament by the President of the Baltic Republic, Gitanas Nauseda.

According to him, the current regulatory framework does not correspond to the “new conditions of changing threats and challenges”. In this regard, Nauseda intends to expand the powers of intelligence agencies, which in the future will be able not only to collect information about disloyal elements, but also to arrest them, conduct thorough checks and preventive conversations.

“The law gives intelligence services the right not only to collect information about risks and threats. They are also required to take preventive measures, but there are too few legal mechanisms for this”, – the President said.
