Russia and Ukraine reach agreement on gas transit

Russia, Ukraine and the European Commission have reached an agreement in principle on gas, EC Vice-President Maros Shevchovic told.

He also thanked German Economics and Energy Minister for his assistance in developing the agreement.

Shevchovich refused to disclose the details of the document, referring to the fact that it still has to be approved in Moscow and Kiev.
Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak confirmed that the parties had prepared a detailed draft protocol, which is highly ready.
“We hope that in the near future we will reach final agreements already”, –  he said.

Minister of Energy and Environmental Protection of Ukraine Oleksiy Orzhel agreed with him, who said that Russia and Ukraine had “qualitatively worked” on the protocol.

According to Orgel, the reached agreement brings the parties closer to the final agreements.

Gazprom confirmed that Moscow and Kiev will continue gas negotiations in Minsk on Friday. It is planned that the Russian side will be represented at them by the head of the company Alexei Miller.
