The Pentagon has bought almost three thousand new armored cars

A contract worth over $800 million was signed with the main contractor, Oshkosh Defense.

The U.S. military purchased more than 2.7 thousand new armored vehicles JLTV (Joint Light Tactical Vehicle) to replace the obsolete multi-purpose vehicles of the HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) family. This is reported by TASS with reference to the Pentagon’s press service.

“In the interests of the U.S. Army, Marine Corps, Air Force and Navy, a contract was signed for the production of 2,721 JLTV armored vehicles and 1,6714 maintenance kits worth $803.9 million. The main contractor, Oshkosh Defense, will fulfill the contract by January 31, 2022”, –  the statement said.

As added in the U.S. Defense Department, this number also includes a batch of armored vehicles JLTV for Montenegro, which will be the first new samples of U.S. equipment supplied to the Balkan country.

Earlier it became known that the U.S. buys weapons for two trillion dollars. This amount includes 87 major Pentagon programs. The largest part of the funds (about $921 billion) falls on the U.S. Navy.
