Former Austrian Foreign Minister criticized NATO policy towards Russia

NATO needs to stop antagonizing Russia and misrepresenting the country, former Austrian Foreign Minister Karin Kneissl told.

“I think it is high time that NATO accepted the proposals put forward by the Russian side and a number of annexes. And we need to stop antagonizing Russia and presenting it in a false light, especially when it comes to Syria or south-eastern Europe”, –  Kneisl said.

Commenting on the situation in the alliance as a whole and the words of French President Emmanuel Macron about the “brain death” of NATO, Knysl stressed that the need for the organization has been raised for many years.

“The alliances are in the interests of a certain era, and when they fall away, the question of the need for an organization is raised. I think NATO has been asking this question for many years. If we return to the era of 2002-2003, the beginning of the war in Iraq, NATO was close to exploding shortly before that. There are many cracks in NATO that have deepened since then. And it’s not just Turkey now”, –  she said.
