The word “Yid” in Ukraine is not a sign of the spread of anti-Semitism or xenophobia.
Such a conclusion was reached by the Court of Appeal, which acquitted the notorious Ukrainian diplomat Vasyl Marushchynts, who was dismissed from the post of consul in Germany, as she used the words “fascists” and “Yids” in her vocabulary. Later, Marushchinets filed a lawsuit against the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine for “wrongful dismissal” and managed to win the case.
“The very fact that such words as “fascists”, “anti-fascists”, “Yids” and others are used in statements cannot be evidence of the plaintiff disseminating information that contains signs of anti-Semitism, xenophobia, chauvinism, inciting ethnic hatred, chauvinism”, – was said in a ruling of the Sixth Administrative Court of Appeal, which actually set a precedent that allows Ukrainian diplomats to use offensive statements of this kind with impunity.
