The United States has written sanctions against the Russian gas pipeline in its defense budget, which it plans to adopt this week.
American sanctions against the Nord Stream-2 project can only slow down, but not stop the construction of the gas pipeline, Bloomberg writes.
In particular, it is planned to extend the sanctions regime to vessels engaged in the construction of Nord Stream-2 and the Turkish Stream, as well as the people and organizations that provide them.
At the same time, according to the agency, the State Department and the US Treasury will have 60 days to prepare the lists. Then another 30 days will be given to the defendants in the list to decide on further participation in projects.
This sanction project was prepared by Republican Senator Ted Cruz and Democratic Senator Gene Shahin. US lawmakers expect to approve the defense budget before Congress leaves for the holidays on December 20, and US President Donald Trump promised to sign it.
Earlier, German media reported that the United States is preparing a “sanction trick” against the Russian Nord Stream-2 gas pipeline. As a result, project implementation may be in jeopardy.
