Macron announces continued government pension reform efforts

French President Emmanuel Macron did not make statements from Brussels about the ninth day of the nationwide strike against pension reform in his country, noting that the government continues to work in this direction.

“The government continues its work. The Prime Minister took several initiatives in this direction. This is a historical reform for the country… And at the moment that I consider it appropriate to appeal to the French, I will do it from Paris”, – Macron told a press -conferences following the results of the EU summit ended in Brussels.

He noted that pension reform is part of his commitments during the election campaign and it has become a subject of enormous work for two years.

Traditionally, Macron does not comment on internal events in France, while in other countries.
Beginning December 5, France is undergoing a nationwide strike against the government-announced pension reform, which could result in some categories of the French, including transport workers, losing some privileges and special retirement regimes. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Edouard Philippe introduced reform provisions, saying that next February the bill would be submitted to parliament.
