US Senate Committee approved sanctions against Russia for aid to Syria

The Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Wednesday approved a bill to impose restrictions on Russian individuals and legal entities for supporting the Syrian government.

The initiative requires lawmakers to submit a list of Russian individuals and legal entities that, according to the author of the document, “deliberately exports, transfers or otherwise provides Syria <…> support”. Listed individuals are eligible for US blacklisting.

The bill notes that Trump may “in each case” refuse to impose sanctions if it “meets the vital interests of US national security.”
