Nationalists from the Isamaa party proposed to exclude Russian from school education in Tallinn. The program proposed by the deputies was designed for 6 years. At the same time, the Estonian capital’s mayor’s office refused from such a scenario.
The corresponding decision was made on Wednesday, December 11, at the meeting of the City Council.
The initiative of the nationalists was introduced at the end of November. At that time, the party representatives claimed that Tallinn had an excellent opportunity to translate the training into Estonian, due to the availability of necessary funds.
Deputy Mayor of Tallinn Vadim Belobrovtsev, while evaluating the ideas of Isamaa, called the party populists who are trying to attract attention, but, apparently, even studying the city council’s agenda.
“A similar initiative to translate schools and kindergartens into Estonian was recently taken by the Reform Party faction, and the city has already evaluated the proposal. Negative. And the Isamaa faction in Tallinn’s city council suffers from populism, drawing attention to itself at the expense of the travelled “Russian map”.
