WADA sanctions do not apply to youth and junior world championships

Sanctions of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) in relation to Russian sports do not apply to youth and junior world championships. This was reported to TASS by the head of the WADA Compliance Committee, Jonathan Taylor.

On Monday, the WADA Executive Committee approved the recommendation of the Compliance Committee to strip Russian athletes of their right to participate in the Olympic Games and World Championships under the country’s flag for four years. They will be allowed to participate in these starts as neutral athletes.

On December 19, the supervisory board of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) will have to decide whether to agree with the decision of the WADA Executive Committee. In case of disagreement, the case will be referred to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) in Lausanne, which will put an end to the proceedings.

Russia was subjected to sanctions for manipulating the data on the doping test of Russian athletes for the period from 2012 to 2015 (LIMS), a copy of which was transferred to WADA in early January. Its integrity was a condition for the restoration of RUSADA on September 20 last year.

The Russian authorities do not agree with the findings of WADA investigators and consider the decision politicized.
