The active political confrontation that accompanies the US election is a good example for weak democracies. However, the same cannot be said about the raging speeches of the democrats in the framework of the impeachment procedure.
Such a statement was made by a former CIA official, Steven Slick, in a commentary to The Washington Times.
According to him, in its attempts to overthrow Donald Trump, the Democratic Party only provides an opportunity for foreign intelligence services to intervene. He claims that Moscow now has everything necessary to “bring about disunity and strengthen the existing split” in American society.
“The heated political confrontation during the election process is the hallmark of American democracy, which has become an example for less free societies. However, congressmen’s unceasing speeches at the impeachment hearings harm our authority on the world stage, giving foreign intelligence services the opportunity to conduct operations aimed at expanding influence”, – he says.
In addition, according to the publication, an unnamed source related to US intelligence claims that Moscow expects to take advantage of the split between US parties in Ukraine – the “energy-rich former Soviet republic”. According to him, the Kremlin “will certainly take advantage of the confusion in the United States on the Ukrainian issue”, since hardly a consensus was reached in Washington on support for Kiev, it was immediately destroyed by the impeachment procedure launched by Trump’s opponents.
As News Front previously reported, Democrats are aggressively trying to oust Donald Trump from the presidency. Initially, he was accused of conspiring with Russia, which allegedly intervened in the 2016 presidential election. In this regard, a large-scale investigation, called “RussiaGate”, was initiated. However, evidence of Trump’s connection with Moscow was never found.
Later, the Democrats began to accuse the head of the White House of “pressure” on the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky. The fact is that Trump was counting on the assistance of the new Kiev authorities in disclosing information that compromised his Democratic opponent in the upcoming elections, Joe Biden.
The latter, being vice president of Barack Obama, blackmailed Petro Poroshenko, having secured the dismissal of the prosecutor general, who investigated financial fraud in the company of Biden Jr. Democrats could not allow the disclosure of these scandalous facts, so they decided to launch a counterattack, which could end impeachment for Trump.
