Turkey stated that the “sea” memorandum, signed with the government of the National Accord of Libya and called unlawful by several countries, as well as the authorities in eastern Libya, will be submitted to the UN for demarcation, and Ankara and Tripoli will act according to the document they have approved.
Earlier, the Turkish parliament approved the proposal to ratify the Memorandum of Understanding concluded with Tripoli on maritime zones.
“After the parliament’s approval of the Libyan National Accord government’s memorandum of understanding, it (the memorandum – ed.) Will be submitted to the UN for approval of the demarcation according to the law of the sea,” said Ahmet Berat Chonkar, member of the Turkish Parliament’s International Relations Commission.
“After that (Ankara and Tripoli – ed.) They will take all kinds of necessary actions in the marine zones of influence defined by the memorandum so that they can use their sovereign rights over economic and natural resources within the legal framework provided for by marine jurisdiction,” the parliamentarian said.
