Chairman of the Ministerial Conference Hans-Joachim Grote sharply criticized the plans of the Federal Minister of the Interior Horst Seehofer (CSU) to receive every fourth migrant rescued from the Mediterranean.
“I think you cannot speak for everyone”, – said Grote.
Federal politics and European politics are important, but countries and municipalities must “ultimately integrate people into society”, – the MP said.
A “legally sound procedure” is required.
At the end of summer, Seehofer decided to accept every fourth migrant arriving on a ship of private rescue organizations in Italy. At a meeting in Malta, the Ministers of the Interior of France, Italy and Malta adopted a voluntary distribution mechanism for boat migrants to EU countries.
Seehofer promised to provide a quarter in Germany. So far, no one else has joined this plan. The Federal Minister of the Interior responded to criticism by saying that in any case, Germany already receives a quarter of immigrants.
