Putin announces the possible preservation of gas transit through Ukraine

The construction of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline does not mean that Russia wants to stop transit through Ukraine, said President Vladimir Putin, expressing the hope that Kiev and Moscow will find a mutually acceptable option.

The head of state spoke about this at a meeting with German businessmen.

He noted that last year, deliveries of Russian fuel to Germany reached a record 55.5 billion cubic meters, and the commissioning of Nord Stream-2 will double this volume.

“Once again, I want to say that this does not mean at all that Russia intends to stop transit through the territory of Ukraine. The issue is not the territory, but economic feasibility,” the president added.

According to him, negotiations with Ukraine on gas are quite difficult.
