Greece: Security measures tightened due to fears of unrest

In Greece, security measures were strengthened due to fears of riots on the anniversary of the death of 15-year-old teenager Alexis Grigoropoulos from a police bullet in 2008.

Every year on the day of the death of a teenager, riots occur. This year, the anniversary coincided with the expiration of the ultimatum of the authorities to the squatters: to release the illegally occupied buildings within 15 days. In Athens and other Greek cities, dozens of buildings are captured by anarchists and migrants. Migrants arrange housing in the buildings they occupy, and anarchists often use them for years as the headquarters of their organizations.
