Neighboring relations with the Russian Federation are important for Norway, it is important to maintain good contacts between the departments of the two countries, said the Norwegian ambassador in Moscow, Rune Resaland.
“Neighboring relations with Russia are important for Norway. We have many common interests, including those arising from good neighborliness in the north. Therefore, it is important that good contacts be maintained between various institutions, bodies, departments of our countries”, – he said at a meeting with the chairman of the committee Council of the Federation for International Affairs Konstantin Kosachev.
According to him, over the past 25 years between Oslo and Moscow there has been a wide and successful cooperation in such fields as fishing, ecology, coast guard, search and rescue at sea, science, culture and education.
The Norwegian ambassador also noted that there are significant political differences between the countries. “Now political contacts between our countries are intensifying, and this makes it possible to talk about what we agree on and that we have different points of view”, – said Rune Resaland.
In his opinion, 2019 was an active year for bilateral cooperation.
“Regular consultations between the ministries of foreign affairs and the ministries of defense of Russia and Norway have resumed. I think this is perceived as a mutually beneficial practice. And we attach great importance to continuing it”, – the ambassador emphasized.
