Another Russian-Turkish patrol inspected the situation in northwestern Syria, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
“On December 3, 2019, another joint patrol of the Russian military police and the Turkish armed forces inspected the situation in northwestern Syria, completing joint patrols of a new area of the Syrian-Turkish border today. Airborne helicopter crews of the Russian Air Force carried out air patrolling of the area”, – said in the message.
According to the report, the joint patrol, which started from the crossing point of the village of Garib, overcame a route of about 60 kilometers in about two hours and returned to the starting point.
It is noted that during patrolling along the route, the joint patrol passed through several border Syrian settlements. “This was the thirteenth joint patrol of the Syrian-Turkish border in the border area, located several tens of kilometers east of the village of Kobani”, – the report said.
The joint patrol included eight units of military equipment – the Tiger and Typhoon armored vehicles of the Russian military police and the Kirpi armored vehicles of the Turkish border service, as well as about 50 military personnel of both states. Real-time monitoring of the situation along the route of the convoy was provided by the Orlan-10 drone of the Russian military police.
On October 22, Russia and Turkey signed a memorandum of understanding of 10 points, in particular, on the entry of units of the Russian military police and the Syrian border service on the Syrian side of the border with Turkey outside the Turkish Source of Peace zone. They will facilitate the withdrawal of Kurdish troops and their weapons 30 kilometers from the Syrian-Turkish border. Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu previously said that the Kurds were withdrawn ahead of schedule. After this, a joint Russian-Turkish patrol began.
