Russia expects fruitful cooperation with the new IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi, he is similarly configured, Mikhail Ulyanov, Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to International Organizations in Vienna, told on Monday.
The IAEA General Conference on Monday at a special session approved the appointment of Grossi to the post of new head of the agency. He will begin his duties on December 3.
“The new Director General is a well-known professional with extensive experience. We have been cooperating with him for a long time. True, it was a collaboration in his capacity as the Permanent Representative of Argentina to international organizations in Vienna, including the IAEA”, – Ulyanov said when asked to comment on Grossi’s statement in office.
“Now the cooperation will continue in its new capacity as the IAEA Director General. We hope that this interaction will be fruitful. Rafael Grossi, I think, has the same attitude”, – the Russian diplomat added.
Grossi, the first Latin American to lead the IAEA, became the agency’s sixth director general since its founding in 1957. The head of the IAEA is appointed for four years.
