Detainees accused of illegal gatherings, gun possession, and damage to property.
Hong Kong police detained 58 radical rioters last weekend. This was announced on Monday at a press conference by a representative of law enforcement agencies, Senior Superintendent Gong Wincheng.
“Over the past two days, 48 men and 10 women between the ages of 14 and 36 have been detained. They are accused of illegal assembly, possession of weapons and damage to property”, – the officer said.
The main riots broke out on Sunday in the mainland, when groups of radicals left the route of the peaceful rally agreed with the authorities and began to provoke riots. They threw bottles and bricks on guard, staged pogroms in shops and restaurants whose business is related to mainland China. During the clashes, three law enforcement officers were injured.
In early summer, mass protests broke out here against the authorities’ intention to pass an extradition bill that would allow extradition of offenders to mainland China. Despite the recall of this legislative initiative, opposition supporters continue anti-government protests. In total, over the past six months, the number of detainees reached 5947 people, said at a press conference.
