British Prime Minister Johnson asks Trump to refrain from interfering in the UK elections

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the “best” option for the development of events would be if US President Donald Trump did not participate in the UK elections during his visit to London and his presence at the NATO summit next week.

Trump intervened in the October elections, saying that opposition candidate Labor leader Jeremy Corbin would be “so bad” for Britain, and that Johnson should make a deal with Brexit party leader Nigel Faraj.

Nonetheless, there is an opinion among conservatives that Trump could by his intervention undermine the London campaign just over a week before the December 12 elections, in which Johnson is supposed to win.

Johnson said that if he retains power, he will hold Brexit by January 31 – after the nearly four-year political crisis following the 2016 referendum in which the British voted to secede from the European Union.

He said he wants to keep government preparations for a possible Brexit without a deal, according to which Britain would be left without an agreement with Brussels and potentially expose itself to greater economic uncertainty, but he hopes to close a trade deal with the EU by the end of 2020.
