There are currently about 272 million migrants in the world, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Geneva in its annual report.
Compared to 2000, the number of migrants increased by approximately 120 million.
IOM writes that two out of three migrants seek work abroad. The current figure exceeds some earlier forecasts for 2050.
“This shows that the scale and speed of international migration is notoriously difficult to predict.”
India continues to stand out among countries of origin of migrants. The main goal is the USA. According to IOM, migrant remittances to homes reached $ 689 billion.
The number of refugees around the world seeking protection abroad, fearing persecution and conflict, is 25.9 million. 41.3 million people became internally displaced due to conflicts.
