There is no ethnocultural fascism in Georgia, but opening the Russian Language Center here is unacceptable.
The director of the National Parliamentary Library, Georgy Kekelidze, made such a resonant statement. His words are quoted by the Georgian edition of News Front.
It is worth noting that Kekelidze does not hide the fact that the National Library has Anglo-American, French, German, Italian and Jewish centers.
“At the beginning of summer and then one more time I was met by representatives of the cultural department of Russia, who arrived in Tbilisi. They suggested that I open a Center for the Russian Language and Culture at the National Library, since we already have Anglo-American, French, German, Italian, Jewish centers. I dismissed them. If Mr. [member of the Federation Council Gregory] Karasin again means the National Library, and world practice provides for the creation of cultural centers in precisely such spaces, then let him hear from me a public refusal, ”Kekelidze said.
At the same time, he said that Russia should be grateful for the fact that in Tbilisi, according to the rules, we keep a large fund with Russian-language books, like all other funds. “I’ll add that we in the library are very far from ethno-cultural fascism,” he stated.
