US accused of unfair competition due to criticism of Nord Stream 2

The German Bundestag noted that both Europe and Russia are interested in the work of the project, and the United States pursues only its own goals.

The United States wants by any means to achieve the supply of its own gas to the European market, therefore resorting to unfair competition methods. In particular, they criticize and threaten sanctions to all participants in the Nord Stream 2 project. About this in an interview with TASS said the head of the Bundestag Committee on Economics and Energy Klaus Ernst.

– This criticism is part of the US attempts to supply gas extracted from the fracking method to the European market by all means. They are putting pressure on the European Union and all European countries to buy as much gas from America as possible on the continent while still building liquefied gas terminals. At the same time, the United States cares about its interests, not the interests of Germany or Europe. They want to provide sales markets and use dishonest methods”, – said the deputy from the Left Party.

At the same time, as the German deputy stressed, these actions of Washington are also extremely controversial from the point of view of international law.

– They are extraterritorial – they are used outside the United States and are aimed at enterprises that are not American. Germany and the European Union have the right to implement such an energy policy as they consider correct. For this, we do not need consultations and coercion from the United States, the head of the committee said.

Klaus Ernst noted that in Europe the volume of gas production is reduced, and therefore the EU can not do without Russian gas. But at the same time, this does not mean a direct dependence of Europe on Russia, the deputy emphasized.

“I think this is nonsense”.  Mutual dependence – we need gas, and Russia wants to sell this gas. For 40 years, this has been working well. From mutual dependence fruitful cooperation can be obtained. It has value and allows you to maintain understanding, including in difficult times”, – the politician added.
