The United Kingdom needs to revise its obligations under international arms limitation agreements in order to be able to fully prepare for war with Russia.
This is stated in the report of the Joint Royal Institute for Security and Defense Research.
Under the pretext of the comprehensive superiority of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation over the British army, the staff of the analytical center offer to start investing in the production of now-prohibited cluster munitions. At the same time, the authors tentatively recommend that the kingdom government reconsider its commitments made under the Convention on Cluster Munitions, which was signed in Oslo in 2008. Analysts argue that this approach will ensure victory in an armed clash with Russia.
One of the staff of the United Royal Institute, Jack Watling, in a commentary on The Daily Telegraph, said that there is awareness among British troops of the need for such a move. However, at the moment, the country’s authorities have not expressed their position regarding the withdrawal from international agreements to ban cluster munitions.
Cluster munitions are thin-walled shells inside which contain small explosive elements of anti-tank, anti-personnel or incendiary effects. However, there were repeatedly recorded cases when the mines did not work, which led to the actual mining of significant areas. It was this fact that caused criticism of this type of shells. In the United States, the problem was approached ambiguously, starting to paint submunitions in bright colors to simplify their detection, but this only began to attract children who died or were injured as a result.
As a result, the Convention on Cluster Munitions was developed and approved, prohibiting the use, development, purchase or sale, as well as promoting the production of cluster munitions.
