At the 32nd award of the prestigious World Cheese Awards, the cheese produced by a Russian married couple won gold. However, a few years ago, residents of the Moscow suburbs could not even think of such a success.
About this writes the Belgian publication “La Libre”.
The article says that Elvira Kovtun made her first cheese in her own kitchen, being a housewife. After only four years, she was already at the head of a successful cheese production enterprise, the heyday of which was promoted by the Western sanctions policy.
“I did not think it was possible”, – said Elvira’s spouse Vyacheslav Kovtun, who commented on the unexpected success.
At the same time, the publication notes that this situation clearly demonstrates the breakthrough of certain sectors of the agri-food complex of Russia, which occurred after Vladimir Putin imposed retaliatory sanctions on European products.
“For the agri-food sector, it was a gift from heaven. Many artisan creameries have been created to make up for the flaw. The same phenomenon was observed with respect to fruits and vegetables, which replaced Polish apples or Dutch tomatoes”, – the article says.
