OSCE Chairman intends to visit Donbass

The Foreign Minister of Slovakia, the OSCE Chairman-in-Office Miroslav Lajcak, said that he would visit the village of Lugansk in Donbass this week.

In 2015, as a result of hostilities, the bridge across the Seversky Donets at the checkpoint “Village of Lugansk” was destroyed. The self-proclaimed LPR and Kiev agreed to repair the bridge at the Luganskaya Stanitsa checkpoint. From August 1, demining work began before the bridge was repaired; on November 20, it was opened ahead of schedule after restoration.

“I was there in January, this was my first visit. I made the restoration of the bridge (damaged by shelling – Approx. Ed.) My priority, I spoke with partners in Russia, Ukraine. I plan to visit it later this week with my Ukrainian counterpart. For me, this is one of the legacies of the Slovak Chairmanship of the OSCE”, – Laichak told RIA Novosti on the sidelines of the Berlin Security Conference.

He explained that the President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky opened the reconstructed bridge last week, this was possible due, among other things, to the separation of forces on the contact line in this area.
