Chinese Foreign Minister condemns attempts to undermine stability in Hong Kong

Any attempts to undermine stability in Hong Kong are doomed to failure, Foreign Minister Wang Yi said on Monday.

“No matter how the situation in Hong Kong changes, one thing remains certain – Hong Kong is part of China, it is the administrative region of China, any attempts to create chaos and undermine Hong Kong’s stability and prosperity are doomed to failure”, –  said a statement issued by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

The corresponding statement was made by the Chinese minister in Japan, answering a question from the Japanese media about the situation in Hong Kong.

Mass protests provoked by the consideration of the extradition bill have been held in Hong Kong since early June, during which time the police detained almost 4.5 thousand people, over 1.5 thousand were hospitalized due to injuries in the streets, more than 400 policemen were injured. After large-scale protests, Hong Kong authorities made concessions, and in early October, the bill was completely withdrawn. However, the protests did not stop, they became small, but more fierce.

Chinese authorities have repeatedly accused the United States of meddling in Hong Kong.
