Representatives of the United States and the Taliban are conducting informal negotiations in the capital of Qatar, Doha, the Tolo News channel reports citing sources.
It is noted that the continuation of official negotiations between the US and the Taliban and the reduction of violence are now being discussed. At the same time, former Taliban commander Sayed Akbar Agha told the channel that he was aware of the ongoing secret negotiations, and suggested that they take into account the interests of Afghanistan.
“Our goals and priorities for peace are very clear on the issue of reducing violence, which will lead to a ceasefire and, ultimately, on the start of direct negotiations between the Government of Afghanistan and the Taliban,” said the representative of the President of Afghanistan, Sedik Sedikki.
The channel clarifies that the presidential administration also said that Washington is negotiating with the Taliban in consultation with the Afghan government.
