The Ministry of foreign Affairs of Bolivia expressed its protest to the government of Mexico, in which he accused ex-President Evo Morales in activities incompatible with refugee status.
The Bolivian government believes that Mexico is violating article 4 of the 1967 UN Declaration on Territorial Asylum, which requires asylum states to restrict refugee activities that run counter to the UN’s goals of maintaining peace, friendship and non-interference in other countries’ domestic policies.
“Mr. Evo Morales from Mexico calls for violence, encroaching on the stability of the constitutional government, peace and the rights of citizens of Bolivia”, – the ministry said in a statement on Twitter.
On Wednesday, the head of the Bolivian Interior Ministry, Arturo Murillo, showed a video in which Morales, from his asylum in Mexico, allegedly instructs a certain leader of coca producers about holding protests. According to the interim government, the result of such actions is the blockade of roads and food shortages in cities. Morales himself called the installation of this video, on the basis of which the new authorities of the country are preparing an international lawsuit against him.
Evo Morales won the presidential election with a minimum margin on October 20, but the opposition announced massive violations. At first, Morales announced new elections, but then, under pressure from the military, he resigned and left the country. Following him, the entire top leadership of the country resigned, power passed to the opposition vice-speaker of the Senate, Janine Agnes. Proponents of Morales dispute the transfer of authority to Agnes and demand her resignation.
